I was so pleased to find this website!!!! I bought the singles back in the 80’s but haven’t heard them in such a long time, as no longer have a record player. I’ve asked my local radio station to play them in the 80’s hour but nothing. Also no one else seems to remember them!!! I can’t tell you how good it was to hear the songs again it really brought a tear to my eye. i remember playing “what is this thing” and “eyes of ice” over and over in my bedroom………. memories
thanks

I’ve played them over the years and always wondered why there was never an Album, now I know what happened at last, what a shame.
I’m so made up to learn the Album I’ve always wanted is now available

I loved the 2 singles back in the 80’s and I was in the process of puting them onto my ipod, when I thought i’d search for Scarlet Party, and to my delight found this site.
Would love to hear the album, please let me know if it’s still available. And keep up the good work!

Seen this band so many times, Dingwall’s @ camden was one of best gigs i,ve ever seen. Also see them @ greyhound chadwell heath, and loads of other places which i cant remember name of as i was usually drunk, and see them @ a place called gordonia E18 most nights of the week.
Good bunch of people.

when i first got a computer, about 10 years ago i put in the words scarlet party, but alas nothing, then tonite as i was sorting out some things in my loft,i came across the EMI picture sleeve single, which prompted me to put the words in again, some ten years later.lol and low and behold here i am.
i first came across scarlet party in april 1983,when i bought a copy of electronics & music maker,on their fact file page was a artical about scarlet party, what caught my eye was the mention of the word novatron and melotron,i am a big fan of this instrument, and was interested to see that it featured in their forthcoming album,of course i spent the next few months trying to track it down.the only mention of the group i could find was the single on emi, which i bought straight away, but of course my search for the album was in vain, until now,so although belated i can now add it to my other 350 albums that feature melotron.
just like to thank the person who started this web site,of course the group who has wowed us all in the first place and not forgetting the wonderful world of the internet, must go now to order the cd,thanks again to all concerned.kind regards, peter.

Is that Chris Hunt of Shadows & Reflections fanzine? I still got a few copies of your fanzine about somewhere. One of the best 80s fanzines to come out along with mine. lol
February 9th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Sean Heaphy just brought this website to my attention - great to see Scarlet Party have finally come into the web age. I’ll see if I can dig out some memorabilia for you - I have set-lists from at least three gigs, badges, the odd drumstick, signed promo photo, and if you fancied running it, I might dig out the 2000-word fanzine interview I did with Graeme Dye at the Marquee in 1983!!
February 8th, 2007 at 5:43 pm
101 Damnations is without doubt the best pop song ever. I loved Eyes of ice too, so much so that when I saw it in a bargain bin in my local record store I bought it again because it didn’t belong there. For years I’ve been browsing the web trying to find out if there was an unreleased album and now I’ll be sending my cheque asap. Well done for not letting money be the driving force and sending proceeds to a worthy cause. I alaways thought you must be good guys.
January 13th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
I just stumbled across this site and was surprised to find that SP recorded an album (albeit never released). I always thought that “101-Dam-Nations” was their only record (which I bought back in the 80s, by the way).
It’s nice to see that you make their album available as an “unofficial†CD. I have a suggestion, though. Have you considered making it available for download? (It’s 2007 after all
.) I think this would be very beneficial to any non-British fans. After all, sending CDs all over the world can be ridiculously expensive.
January 4th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
So nice to fall across this site. As has been said already 101 Dam-Nations is one of the all time lost power pop classics and is still one of my favourite songs and Eyes of Ice is a beautiful ballad. I still have them both on 7″ and get them out to play them regularly. I’m lucky enough to have signed copies of each (Mark Gilmour on 101 and a signed EMI promo photo emblazoned “Shine On - Graham Dye” inside “Eyes”) I often wondered why there was no album and what happened to the band, so good to see that there still around in one form or another. What chance a SP reunion? Release of the great lost album is a must.

Ann was 50 on 17/12/06. She and my son Shaun sung a duet of Eyes of Ice at the party (with the original 45 playing in the background). It was an emotional experience for us as this has been a song that has meant so much to us for the past 23 years. Shaun is 13, knows every word and it has become our driving song. At the party, people had never heard the song before but were asking afterwards, who it was by, how you can get hold of it and when it was released. Our copy is battered, snaps crackles and pops its way on clear vinyl. In any event it is one of the best overlooked ballads of the past 25 years (except by us). Thank you so much for the good times and good luck with your future careers.
Love Paul, Ann & Shaun

This site brings back some wonderful memories of my teenage years.
Glad to see you are still all around and in the business in some way. I’ve been trying to find some info about you all for ages.
Can still remember all the great nights in Walthamstow in the 1980’s then back to my mates Paul & Alison in Buckhurst Hill. Can’t drive through them places or South Woodford without getting nostalgic.
Sean, a cheque is on the way. At least once I have the CD I can put my old record player away and place the singles in a safe place.
November 2nd, 2006 at 7:22 pm
Hi There,
What a Great site! its really Fab.
It’s so good to see that loads of you still enjoy the music and keep the Scarlet flags flying! I had the best of times playing with the “Neds” all we ever seemed to do is laugh …all the time..and then laugh some more.
We still keep in touch and we all met up a while ago, which only goes to show that time travel is possible!
Thanks for keeping the memories alive,
Shine On and Godbless
from Micky Portman

It would be great to see them play a reunion gig
October 20th, 2006 at 5:12 pm
I was only playing 101 damnations last weekend when I had some friends around. Still sends shivers down the spine, such a tight rousing rock song and, if you didnt know better , with John Lennon on lead vocals. Just googled the band and found this site. Fantastic! Lets all get the brothers to reform as SP and do some gigs.
October 19th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
Wow, what a way to find this site. I’ve been searching for Graham Dye (I’m a big fan of The Alan Parsons Project and I like Dye’s voice in the band, Little Hans of Eric Woolfsons cd Freudiana is a big favourite) before and then I didn’t find anything. Now when I find this place it feels great.
I’ve been listening to the songs on the site and they are great. I’m thinking about getting the unreleased CD, but I might be a problem because I live in Stockholm, Sweden.
Anyway, thanks for this site, the wonderful songs and I wish you all good luck!
Best wishes,
Adam Nilsson, teenager in Sweden

I saw the band live at the Marquee Club and they were fantastic. A friend of a friend from Chelmsford was going out with one of the band at the time (can’t recall her name). I seem to remember them playing ‘Sgt Pepper’ over the pa before they came on and then having back projected films all the way through the gig. I will try and get to one of the ‘Words and music’ gigs.
October 9th, 2006 at 8:52 pm
Thanks everybody for your interest and for your kind words. It’s really nice to know that we haven’t been forgotten.
I will send a copy of the now infamous CD to anyone who wants it. Please send a cheque or postal order (made out to S Heaphy) for £11.50 to:
Sean Heaphy, Watermans, 477 Hackney Rd, London E2 9ED.
Every penny sent in so far has been donated to Cancer Research UK, and proceeds from all future sales will be passed on also.
May I respectfully suggest that any cash raised from sales of any other Scarlet Party items also be donated to Cancer Research UK or some other worthy cause. This has been a real “nice thing” so far - let’s not mess it up with money. Thanks everybody.
If there any burning questions, please post them here and I will do my best to answer them. God bless, Sean
October 9th, 2006 at 12:51 pm
Keep up the excellent work - you are somebody that I would call a “real” professional.

WOOOOW…all i can say thank you a million times…i have always known it wasn’t just me, who thought they should have been huge, 101 damn-nations still stands as a classic all these years later…. got to get my hands on the cd..a couple of years ago my son started learning guitar, i just about remembered the chords, but now he’s nailed it, still brings a lump to my throat. ( where did my youth go) thanks again for all the info on your site
July 13th, 2006 at 7:02 pm
Scarlet Party - What a band!! Saw them with my mate from school Eric V at the marquee club back in the early 80’s once with a band called performance supporting them another time with Roy Wood of Wizard fame (I think I am right) Scarlet Party were awesome live, awesome on record -one of the biggest travesties of justice is the fact that the Scarlets didn’t make it BIG.
After 20 odd years finally heard the album tracks and demo songs all i can say is that it was well worth the wait but makes you think what other material they had or would have written. It’s funny how some of the songs I only heard a few times at gigs i remembered. I Was also fortunate enough to speak to the guys after a gig at the marquee great guys. I may even have a signed set list knocking around the house and signed pics.
Anyway guys Shine on:

What can I say other than I bought both singles when they came out and told all my friends at school that this was the next big thing, alas things have funny ways of turning out. I played the singles to death over and over for months. Thanks for the great website and I’ll be getting the CD to listen to tracks I’ve never heard before. Any chance of a reunion ?
April 4th, 2006 at 5:07 pm
Wow! I bought “101 Dam-Nations” when it was released–based on the cover alone–as a pricey import here in the U.S. I loved the record, played it to death; all of us in my college dormitory wing loved it.
Bought “Eyes of Ice,” too, and read about SP playing some gigs during the early 80s “psych revival” in London…then, nothing. I’m glad to know what happened, although I’m sorry that SP didn’t become the monster it should have been.
Best wishes to all.

Hi deepinder,
The Opposite lock was somewhere down near the canal in (Centralish) birmingham - not sure whether it still exists now, but a great place to see a band. I remember being very impressed with the band, but at the time didn’t realise Marks big brother was *the* David Gilmour, as a serious Floyd fan that was rather impressive, got some signed pics with the band which sadly got lost a few years ago….doh!!
April 4th, 2006 at 2:32 am
How is mark gilmour doing, have the family genes kicked in yet.
where was the opposite lock club in Birmingham?
has the venue been demolished?

March 21st, 2006 at 8:34 pm
Steve Dawson is quite right I did play in his band, Walk on Water, who arranged one of Scarlet Party’s early gigs upstairs at the Starlight Rooms , from the famous Railway Tavern, West Hampstead. One of the first bands to use video footage on screens to accompany their music.
Also I remember those early gigs and especially producing the demos of the band recorded in my studio in Ilford. They still sound very fresh and should be remastered. Hope the band want to get in touch and see what we can do !
Whatever happened to Paul Calver ?
March 21st, 2006 at 2:13 pm
Hi there,
It took me so long to get the Scarlet Party’s Eyes of Ice, one of the 10 best ballads ever in my oppinion.
Now, that I have it… Whhhhooooooaaaaa!!!! It’s a thrill!!!! Great music!!!!
It sends me back to the early 80’s, when I was a little kid, and those teenage parties we made… when we were slow dancing with our girls at the time. It brings back such good memories!
Go on! From Portugal!

Hello Giuys, I loved the band back in the days- great shame about what happened. I was in a band with Chris Wyatt and I recall playing a gig with you guys in Hampstead I think. I’d have killed to join you guys I can admit now. I would love to get a copy of the CD ( Chris had a copy of the album and played it to me quite a few times - I am still mates with him by the way). All the very beast guys. Steve
March 17th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
Hi,
Very fond memories of Scarlet Party - saw them at an EMI launch party at the Opposite Lock Club in Birmingham - 101 Damnations is definately the greatest number 1 single that never was!
Would the guys be interested in an Arctic Monkeys style, web based campaign to launch the never released album - I’m sure with a bit of effort that they could be huge!
March 10th, 2006 at 8:49 pm
Great to see a site for SP, agree with Vinny, Eyes of Ice on clear vinyl my favorite track. Used to see the band play at Greyhound in Chadwell Heath -great nights out!!
March 8th, 2006 at 7:47 pm
I was just playing the two singles last night and decided to do a search for the band. I’m thrilled to see a current site dedicated to them. I would love to hear that unreleased album and whatever else there may be.

Wow! Scarlet Party on the web, after all this time! 101 damnations is my favourite record.
